It is, after the first hour or so, a page-turner of a game, filled with a whole lot of mystery that just demands to be solved. This set-up is more than a little melodramatic, and it meanders its way to its conclusion.īut then the paranormal stuff starts happening, and Heart of the Woods takes on an entirely different texture and drama. At length… at long, long length… they decide that they’re going to make this last hoorah one to remember, and that’s when they meet the town local that will act as their guide. See, one of the girls decided to make this trip their last, before they go to splitsville, and the other is justifiably upset that they’re losing both their companion and business partner. Unfortunately, they’re both in a very bad mood. See, the two girls are influencers with a popular YouTube channel for hunting down the paranormal, and they had been called out to this town on the promise of some Conjuring-style happenings. Things kick off with two girls on a train ride to a secluded little village, where they’re promised ghosts.

Heart of the Woods does start slowly, and if I wasn’t reviewing it I actually may have been tempted to put it down before getting past this. On the Switch, you do get this rather wonderful little game for on-the-go play, and that’s a nice compromise. With that being said, you can also play the Switch version and just go look up that art once you understand the context.

Although none of these tasks ever felt meaningful enough to be considered anything more than filler and as good as the middle of an Oreo is, sometimes you’re just craving the cookie.To be right up-front here – Heart of the Woods is fine on Nintendo Switch, but if you want the proper experience you’re going to want to play the PC version, where there’s an R18+ patch and the sex scenes are really, really good. I’m no stranger to side-quests in fact, side-quests might be one of my favourite things to do in most games however, when faced with ONLY side-quests, I’d like them to feel a little bit more fulfilling.ĭuring my hours spent within Little Witch In The Woods, I’ve sent letters, cleared weeds, and even upgraded my home. Please don’t get me wrong there is a lot of fun to be had in completing the absolute plethora of side-quests the game constantly throws your way, but at the end of the day, that’s all there is to it, side-quests. Now, here’s the thing: what I’ve played of Little Witch In The Woods has left me somewhat wanting.

In Little Witch In The Woods, players control a young witch in training named Ellie. If you want the short and straightforward hook that first drew me, here goes: Little Witch In The Woods is what you’d get if you take the gameplay of Stardew Valley but give it a magical/witchy theme. Yet, there is no other game that feels quite like Little Witch In The Woods, which is why this Early Access title was fast on its way to becoming my latest game addiction. From Animal Crossing to Stardew Valley, there are no shortages of simple, sweet, mind-numbingly relaxing titles. Over the last few years, there has been a definite increase in impossibly cute-looking life simulators. Don’t get me wrong, I love/hate myself a good competitive game of League of Legends as much as the next masochist but sometimes what you really need is a break from the self-inflicted torture and instead cuddle up with some blankets, some hot chocolate with little marshmallows and a good cosy game.
